Archive

For more than 40 years, the Archiv Frau und Musik has been dedicated to documenting the history of women’s music and promoting women composers. Being  one of the world’s few international research institutions in this field, the archive makes a significant contribution to cultural policy by collecting, preserving, and publishing the creative works of women composers. In cooperation with national and international institutions involved in all areas of music, and dealing with questions of gender research, the archive and the supporting association Internationaler Arbeitskreis Frau und Musik e. V. contribute to the promotion of equal rights for women in the music industry.

The central tasks of the Archiv Frau und Musik are:

  • To empower women in the world of music
  • To make works by women composers visible and audible
  • To document the history of women’s music
  • To network between science and music practice
  • To cooperate with schools and universities
  • To organize guided tours, readings, exhibitions and concerts
